Grimes Canoe Base

Grimes Canoe Base is located on the Buffalo River near Flatwoods, Tennessee on Highway 13 in Perry County. It is open yearly from March 28th through October 31st.

There are over 110 miles of river available for canoeing on the Buffalo River. Camping is available at the Canoe Base or along the river. A ranger is there year round, and he can help advise you on trips that will suit your group. Trips can be arranged to last from two hours to five days.

To participate in canoeing activities, Cub Scouts must be at least 8 years of age (NO Tiger Cubs) and be partnered in a canoe with an adult, preferably a parent.

If you camp at the Canoe Base, two person tents on platforms are available. Each tent is equipped with cots. You may also bring your own tent from home, if you prefer. Wolf and Bear dens cannot camp as individual dens.

Showers and bathrooms are available along with a Trading Post for snacks, T-shirts, and patches.

Rates for Middle Tennessee Council Scout Units:

• $17.00 per day per canoe for Scouts and leaders if paid prior to arrival.
• $21.00 per canoe per day if not pre-registered and not pre-paid.
• $5.00 per night for a tent on a platform.
• $2.00 per night to use own tents
• $5.00 extra for an extra person in the canoe. (This covers the extra paddle and life jacket.)

Rates for Groups other than Middle Tennessee Council Scout Units:

• $21.00 per day per crew if paid prior to arrival.
• $26.00 per day if not pre-registered.
• Group rate of $19.00 per canoe for ten canoes.
• $6.00 per night for a tent on a platform.
• $2.00 per night to use own tents
• $5.00 extra for an extra person in the canoe. (This covers the extra paddle and life jacket.)
• There is a $15 per canoe charge for shuttling private canoes.

Race will be from Slink Shoals to Grimes Canoe Base (7 miles long)

Two participants per canoe. All participants must be registered Scouts.

COST

$12.00 per participant. Fee covers Friday night tent rental, canoe, lunch and awards.
(Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast are units' responsibility.)

Rules

1. Lifejackets required at all times.
2. Day of race you must meet the age requirements for your division.
3. All paddles, canoes & lifejackets must be from Grimes Canoe Base.
4. Race winners will be determined by time.
5. There will be 1st and 2nd place winners in each division.
