Boy Scout Summer Camp Merit Badge Program

Outdoor Skills, Merit Badges, Recreation, Fun, Fitness, Leadership Skills...

Boxwell Scout Reservation offers a wide variety of programs. The staff is committed to work with your troop to meet your program needs. In addition to the programs listed in the following pages, troops with special program requests should relay these to your camp program director. Your camp program director will work with you and the camp staff to do our very best to make your stay at Boxwell enjoyable. Programs have been designed for new Scouts, returning Scouts and veteran Scouts. Please take time to design your troop's program to meet the needs of all the Scouts in your troop.

Merit Badge Program

The Camping Committee upon has developed a list of recommended merit badges based on the Scout's year in camp. Scoutmasters have the option of sending Scouts to merit badge classes not recommended for their camper year. Green Bar Program

First Year Camper Program

Benefits of the program:

  1. Our Green Bar Program is a syllabus-driven program, allowing Scouts to work on the rank that they would like to earn during their week at summer camp. The program is based on the patrol method. Scouts will form into a patrol during their first class and will work within their patrol for the entire week. The emphasis of this program is Scout Skills, but also includes team work, patrol competition and getting a taste of some of the camp activities available to the campers.
  2. Each instructor will be issued a syllabus for the complete program. They will be instructed on what to teach, how to instruct, on what day, at what time frame, and with what materials that will be necessary. Also, with this program an instructor will be able to teach in the areas in which his strengths lie.
  3. Scouts will receive a check sheet of the items accomplished during the week.
  4. Our program requests Scoutmasters in each area for supervision and assistance in instruction. We thank you in advance for assisting.

VERY IMPORTANT: Pre-registration for the Green Bar is highly important to both the Scout and the staff. Class space is limited to 144 campers each week and you should be sure to register your Green Bar participants no later than May 1st to insure a quality program. Register as you would for a merit badge using the four-digit code.
