Highland Rim Built Successful Spring Camporee
The Highland Rim Spring Camporee theme for 2009 was Pioneering. Each troop in attendance built a bridge with lashings and logs. The troops were judged by proper use of the lashings, proper tying of the lashings, neatness of the bridge, and best functional design. There were 115 Boy Scouts in attendance and 36 adult leaders. The camporee took place on April 17th thru April 19th, on Owen Farms in Cheatham County, TN. There were eleven troops in attendance for the campout. The troops also competed in a cooking contest that took place on Saturday Night during the campout. Troop 458 hosted and planned the campout for Highland Rim. Their hard work made the spring camporee a big success and an enjoyable weekend filled with Scouting.

Highland Rim Brings Fun to CUBOREE
The 2009 Highland Rim Cuboree took place on the weekend of May 1st thru the May 3rd at Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson, TN. The cuboree was attended by over 100 Scouts and over 50 adult leaders. There were over eleven packs in attendance that weekend. The district pinewood derby took place during the day on Saturday, where many Cub Scouts showed their racing expertise. The Arrow of Light ceremony was held on Saturday Night, as thirteen Scouts received the award. Saturday Night was also highlighted by the Crossover Ceremony as thirteen Scouts went from webelos Scouts to Boy Scouts. The district troops were on hand to welcome the new Boy Scouts to their new troops. The troops also provided skills training to the local packs at the cuboree. Stephen Forrester, the activities chairman for Highland Rim, helped plan the cuboree and organize the fun events for the weekend.

Highland Rim Starts New Venturing Crew
The Highland Rim District started a new Venturing Crew in March. The Venturing Crew was organized by former Eagle Scout Jeremy Young. The Venturing Crew was chartered by the Church of Latter Day Saints in Burns, TN. Crew 571 is looking to recruit and add more Ventures to the Crew in June. Jeremy Young is also the Highland Rim’s Venturing Roundtable Commissioner. Mr. Young is trying to organize a forum for all Venturing Crews in the district to be able to communicate and share ideas with each other. The other Venturing Crews in the district gladly welcome Jeremy Young and Crew 571 to Highland Rim.
