Reaping The Rewards
The Hermitage District Volunteer Banquet was a major success this year. We had over 90 dedicated volunteers at the event, and almost every one of them left with some type of memory, an award, a certificate, or maybe just good fellowship.
The highlight of the evening was, without a doubt, the awarding of the Bill Myers Award. This is a new award dedicated to the memory of a truly beloved Scout, Bill Myers, an epitome of Scouting. Freddie Stroup, a 20 year volunteer, received the 2013 award. The 2014 recipient is Jim Miller. Jim Miller has been in Scouting most of his life and is an Eagle Scout as well as the Scoutmaster for Troop 263. Congratulations, Freddie and Jim!
Playing For Those Who Serve
Chris Thordsen has loved playing the trumpet since 2007. He began in the eighth grade, voluntarily playing “Taps” for military memorial services. Now a junior at McGavock High School, and Member of Troop 1204, he was asked to play at The War on Terror Wall of Remembrance Ceremony at Riverfront Park, a nationally recognized event, in October sponsored by Operation Stand Down. Chris has made the comment that the part of the Boy Scout promise that says, “To serve God and My Country…” is the most important part of Boy Scouting to him.
