With access to over 110 miles of water, Grimes Canoe Base allows Scouts over the age of eight to canoe and camp along the Buffalo River. Located on Highway 13 in Perry County near the town of Flatwoods, Grimes offers campsites with two-person tents including cots. Showers and bathrooms are also available, along with a Trading Post for snacks, T-shirts, and patches.
Grimes is open yearly from March 27 through November 1. Nearly 300 Scouts, leaders and family members can be accommodated on the river each day.
Rates for Middle Tennessee Council Scout Units:
- $19.00 per day per canoe for Scouts and leaders if paid prior to arrival.
- $23.00 per canoe per day if not pre-registered and not pre-paid.
- $6.00 per night for a tent on a platform.
- $2.00 per night to use own tents
- $5.00 extra for an extra person in the canoe. (This covers the extra paddle and life jacket.)
- $16.00 Kayak per day per kayak for Scouts and Leaders if paid prior to arrival.
Rates for Groups other than Middle Tennessee Council Scout Units:
- $23.00 per day per crew if paid prior to arrival.
- $28.00 per day if not pre-registered.
- Group rate of $20.00 per canoe for ten canoes.
- $7.00 per night for a tent on a platform.
- $2.00 per night to use own tents
- $5.00 extra for an extra person in the canoe. (This covers the extra paddle and life jacket.)
- There is an $11 per canoe charge for shuttling private canoes.
- $16.00 Kayaks per day per crew if paid prior to arrival.

Race will be from Slink Shoals to Grimes Canoe Base (7 miles long)
Two participants per canoe. All participants must be registered Scouts.
COST
$15.00 per participant. Fee covers Friday night tent rental, canoe, lunch and awards.
(Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast are units' responsibility.)
Rules
1. Lifejackets required at all times.
2. Day of race you must meet the age requirements for your division.
3. All paddles, canoes & lifejackets must be from Grimes Canoe Base.
4. Race winners will be determined by time.
5. There will be 1st and 2nd place winners in each division.

Merit Badges to work toward: FISHING, CAMPING, CANOEING. Must be classified as a swimmer by BSA to be eligible for camp.
