District News
Volunteers and Eagles Recognized at District Banquet On January 25th the Duck River District recognized all our adult leaders for their great leadership to our youth in the scouting programs of the district in Maury, Marshall, Lewis and Perry counties. Sixteen of our Eagle Scouts from the 2007 class were also in attendance and recognized in ceremonies led by State Representative Tom DuBois, who presented each Eagle Scout with an official state proclamation from the Tennessee Legislature signed by the governor and DuBois and other state officials.
Another highlight of the evening was the naming of our 2007 Long Rifle Award recipients, the highest honor we give to volunteers for exceptional service to scouting and youth in the district. The honorees for 2007 were Nancy Blackburn, David Coats, and Bob Yahola. Congratulations and thank you to our Long Rifles and all our leaders for your service.
Monthly Eagle Board of Reviews Rick Hamilton, our new District Advancement Chairman for the Duck River District has set monthly Eagle Board of Reviews for the third Thursday of each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Columbia. Rick has set up the web site
www. duckrivereagles.org to assist our Life Scouts as they begin the Eagle process. We welcome Rick and his leadership in helping our Boy Scouts on their Eagle trail. The district also would like to thank Gynn Rice for his service the last several years as our District Advancement and Pinewood Derby Chairman.
Be Prepared: Summer Camps will be Starting Soon With Cub Scout and Boy Scout resident camps at Boxwell and our District Cub Scout Day Camp just around the corner, now is the time for our boys and families to start planning for their camp experience. The Daily Herald is teaming with our district in the "Send a Scout to Camp" fundraising campaign to help our Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts pay their way to camp. Information on the program is available at our monthly leaders roundtables or by contacting Senior District Executive Allen Crawford at (931) 286-3902 or duckriverde@yahoo.com.
Training Opportunities Available this Spring and Summer The Duck River District and our Training Chairman Bob Yahola would like to invite all our adult leaders who have not completed (or started) their training to take advantage of upcoming training courses being offered in the next few months (See our district calendar for training dates).
