District News
District Banquet If you missed this years District Banquet, you missed the most well attended and successful one we have had in recent memory. Dr. John Bright Cage our former Council Commissioner was our featured speaker, and spoke eloquently about what Scouting meant to him and his relationship with his son. Tom Banks our New District Commissioner was the Emcee for the evening. Hon. John Bryant our Council Training Chairman passed out our Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Pathfinder awards. Current Council Commissioner Dr. John Lea gave out our Quality Unit Awards. The highlight of the evening is the awarding of the Long Rifle for outstanding service to the James E. West District. Last Years Winners presented to this years winners, and we are proud to report that Mike Weinzimer, Tom Banks, and Wes Oakley are our Long Rifle Winners. A huge debt of thanks go to these Volunteers for their service. We also want to thank Jim and Joanne Hardin for their hours of work behind the scenes to provide a wonderful program and a beautiful dais for the winners to stand in front of. Please make plans to attend next year, we want to honor you in front of your peers and this is a night just for you.
Want to be First to Latimer, call me! If you are interested in camping at our New High Adventure Reservation and you do not have a Venture Crew please contact David Zimmerle to talk about getting one set up for you. This is a great opportunity for the Older Boys who have gotten their Eagle to stay involved in the program and take on even more responsibility in planning their events. The first event at Latimer will be a Kodiak, which will be a week long trek based event. We will be hiking for a few days and canoeing to Camp Tubb and back. Along the way we will be Caving, Rappelling, and possibly some Mountain Biking. The emphasis will be on high adventure and team building. We will be making history and having fun, if you want to be a part of it, you need to be in a Venture Crew!
