Camp Staff Opportunities

The Middle Tennessee Council hires over 250 enthusiastic camp counselors annually to serve as handicraft assistants, sports instructors, shooting sports assistants (archery, .22 caliber rifle, BB gun, skeet and black-powder), trading post operators/managers, maintenance and food service assistants, nature instructors and Scout skills instructors, lifeguards and Cope instructors. These staff members serve 6 week program for our Summer Programs is looking for the very best of our Scouts and Scouters to serve as members of the Summer Camp Staff.  The requirements are stiff, the work is hard and demanding; the experience rewarding.

  • You must be at least 15 years of age by the start of Camp.

  • At age 14 may serve in volunteer Counselor in Training role.

  • All staff must be or become registered members of the Boy Scouts of America.

  • All staff members over the age 18 must be complete a Council Criminal Background Check.

  • The standards of the Scout Oath and Law are the rules governing staff behavior.

  • Full B.S.A. uniform will be worn by all staff at all times in camp.

  • Salary is based on position responsibility with consideration given to the individual’s qualifications and experience.

  • A copy of the Staff Rules and Regulations book must be reviewed and signed by the Scouts prior to arrival at camp.

  • NOTE:  THE USE OF ALCOHOL/TOBACCO OR CONTROLLED DRUGS OR SUBSTANCES DURING THE PERIOD OF SERVICE ON CAMP STAFF WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE   DISMISSAL.

Important Dates  

  • December 7, 2019 Summer Camp interviews at the High Adventure Building 9 am-2 pm (New Staff Only)

  • January 2020 will determine the Miller Scholarship recipients

  • February 1, 2020 Second interviews Summer Camp staff at the Council office 11 am -2 pm (New Staff Only)

  • February 29, 2020 -  Area Directors meeting at the Council office 1 pm -4 pm

  • Month of March 2020 Conference calls with each Camp TBD

  • April 4, 2020 - Beaver Day and the Area Directors Meeting Boxwell Reservation 4 pm - 6 pm  Staff Confirmed and Inventories Due

  • May 9, 2020 Staff Development Day- Boxwell Reservation 9 am-5 pm  Lunch provided  Health forms, W-4, I-9, Scout applications,  Staff Lesson Plan ALL DUE Mandatory
